About the piece

At the beginning of the year, I put out an anonymous survey asking for people to share their experiences with people offering their unsolicited comments and either fat-shaming or skinnyshaming them.

I did a live cast of my own body as I wanted to display my body as exactly as possible, as I wanted to use a real body to share these anonymous voices. I also wanted to show how all of these people around me are all indirectly linked to each other by collecting them on my singular body.

I also decided to use a body as my main idea as I wanted to show how what people say has the ability to shape how we view and perceive.

I decided on using paper as my predominant medium as paper represents fragility, and I wanted to show just how fragile our own perceptions of our bodies are as others are so easily able to change our perceptions of ourselves.

I also decided to keep the artwork raw as I wanted the in-person (or livestream) viewers to be able to write their own experiences onto the sculpture.

This artwork then also becomes the community's artwork as these are your stories.
